ANAR provides a Spanish national helpline for children and teenagers who need to talk about their concerns in total confidence. The helpline is also known as the 'Teléfono del Menor' (Children's Helpline) and callers can normally be helped in English, on request, as well as Spanish. There is also a chat facility, to chat online on the website. A caller / chatter does not have to give a name or personal details and will be able to express themselves freely, and if necessary, be advised about what course of action to take. The service is open 24 hours a day.

Advice can be given on problems at home or at school, with bullying online or problems with eating, relationship or identity problems, or any other issue of concern or interest. The team aim to make everybody feel listened to and respected.

There is also a form on the website to send an email message: https://www.anar.org/en/email-anar/

The local town hall / council office is the gateway for contacting Social Services’ team of support professionals in Spain and to access their services. (Town hall/council is known as known as 'el ayuntamiento' in Spanish (Castilian); 'el ajuntament' in Catalan/Valencian, 'udala' in Basque or 'concello' in Galician). This is also the route for applying for Spanish statutory social care. For some benefits and much of the social care available, it is necessary to have been registered on Spanish town halls’ ‘padrón’ census registers for a minimum period of time; generally from one to five years in total depending on the type of support or benefit requested, although this can vary according to local policies.

Therefore, it is important that residents and their families think ahead and always register on their town ‘padrón’, and keep their details updated (see also Helpful Topics: Understanding the System on this website). (If a UK national resident is not recorded locally on the 'padrón' in extreme cases some short-term emergency help may be available, but it is ad hoc, cannot be predicted and varies by municipality).
