I need help with basic food items or receiving a meal in a food centre
If you are registered on the local census (‘padrón’) in your local town hall, the social care department can provide local advice on what to do.
(If you are not on your local census, click here for how to register and for more information).
Even if you are not registered, a local town hall can normally help guide you in very urgent cases. Some voluntary organisations in a particular area may only coordinate the aid they distribute though the local town hall and may not do so directly, so you may need to go to the town hall first.
Click here to find contact details for the town hall/local council covering your area (enter the name of your town or village when you see the search results).
Food Banks
Click here for a list of organisations that can help in urgent cases and provide information on securing basic food supplies.
(Note: please enter the town or village where you live on the search results and the list will filter only the organisations that cover your area).
In a longer term situation, you would be advised to seek financial advice, see our topic: Organising my finances/understanding about my money and savings
Meal Centres
In larger towns, hot meals can be provided for people in need.
Click here for a list of organisations offering meals at different times of the week, (we recommend you recheck opening times and current availability as details may change).
Note: please enter the town or village where you live on the search results and the list will filter only the organisations that cover your area).
In a longer term situation, you would be advised to seek financial advice, see our topic: Organising my finances/understanding about my money and savings
