British Benevolent Fund (BBF)

Financial fund based in Madrid for emergency and hardship. For Costa del Sol residents, applications must be made by partner organisations including Age Concern, Age Care, the Royal British Legion and the Lions Club (in La Cala de Mijas). Funding can be made in extreme cases to help return residents to the UK to live.

Coverage area and additional information

Based in Madrid but can be applied for via partner organisations in the Costa del Sol region (a recent development). The partner organisations include Age Care (various branches, Age Concern (various branches), Royal British Legion, Lions (La Cala branch) and Lux Mundi (Fuengirola and Torre del Mar/Axarquía). If awarded, this fund will be distributed through these organisations, rather than given directly to the individual. This is a fund for last resort cases e.g. applicants will not be accepted if they have savings, or friends/family who could assist. There are specific criteria in order to become a beneficiary (see website). They may fund the following: repatriation costs, one time grants (e.g. for mobility aids, carers, or medical care), & short term financial relief.
