Calvià council offers a multilingual international department to guide foreign residents and visitors on council services, council paperwork and local life. There are officers in the town hall in Calvià village itself and in the council offices of Palmanova on the coast. The four tourist offices across the Calvià municipal area can also help with information in English, as well as joining the ‘padrón’ municipal census as resident (or renewing it). These are in Palmanova, Magaluf, Peguera and Santa Ponça. The municipality of Calvià covers a broad coastal and inland area southwest of Palma including popular tourist and international residential areas.
The local town hall / council office is the normal gateway to Spanish statutory social care. To apply for statutory social care a UK national must normally have been resident in Spain for 5 years in total and continuously for the last two years. This is why it is important that residents, and their families, think ahead and register residency (see Helpful Topics section of this web for this process). (If a UK national resident is not registered on the ‘padrón’ in extreme cases some short-term emergency help may be available, but is ad hoc, cannot be predicted and varies by municipality).
