CatSalut – Local Public Health Centre
Your local public health centre, run by CatSalut, part of the Catalunya regional government, is your gateway to Spanish public healthcare and support if related to a short-term or long-term medical condition or disability. It is also a route to applying for social care where the need is linked to a medical condition being treated by doctors at the health centre. In the event the doctor or healthcare professional does not speak English and you do not speak Spanish or Catalan, there is a system of confidential telephone interpreters that can be called by staff at the centre.
Click on the weblink below to open up the page of the Catalan public health service website from where you can easily search the address and details of your nearest public heath centre. You can change the language to English at the top of that page.
Once you have clicked on the link, scroll down the page that comes up and click on the “Atención Primaria” (or “Primary Care”) button. A search screen will appear. You need to click on at least one of the categories at the top of the search boxes. – Primary Care Centre (CAP) is for routine health centres/family doctors but there are also options for emergency (out of hours) primary health centres.
Next enter your town (Municipio) in the field below. The other, first two fields refer to health districts and areas, but you do not have to fill those in if you do not know them.
Once the results come up of the centre or centres in your town, click on the name of the one you need and a full file with contact details comes up.
Of course, if you live in a very small town or village, no centre may come up there, in which case search again on the same page by district/health region or look in a nearby place.
